KZN Department of Basic Education has a vision to provide quality schools by 2025. In this quest they have contracted contractors using vibrant, alternative technology to ensure the physical infrastructure and environment inspires learners to want to come to school and learn, and teachers to teach.

Background of Project
KZN Department of Basic Education wants to reduce the overcrowding in the classrooms. They determined primary schools should not have more than 40 learners per classroom and secondary schools should have no more than 35 learners per classroom.

To accomplish this the aim is to have …
• 300 Schools repaired and renovated
• 260 Specialist classrooms like laboratories and computer rooms
• 300 Early child development classrooms
• 2,200 Standard classrooms

CCD together with JV partner Sithokomele, were awarded a contract to build 17 schools in the KZN area. The project commenced in April 2011 and up to date the following has been completed:

100% completed: 14 classrooms in 4 schools
95% completed: 15 classrooms in 4 schools and 2 ablution blocks
50% completed: 13 classrooms in 8 schools, 1 ablution block
Not yet completed: 1 Brand new school and 2 classrooms
